I woke up in the middle of the night and was kept up by my brain constantly going over this though: Are small ($3000 and under) local grants for visual artists (not performing arts) really a good thing? Could that money be better spent?
Thoughts, anyone?

Since its on a project-to-project basis, I would have to say that it is a good thing. Just think of the installation work you could do with that sort of money!
I guess one could include installation in the list of exceptions, along with other non salable or expensive projects. I just don’t like seeing grant money go to painters and pedestal sculptors. I’m working on a longer dissertation on this.
